National Chengchi University


National Chengchi University was established in Nanjing City and relocated to Taipei City. NCCU has been considered as one of the most prestigious universities of Republic of China. Colloquially, NCCU is known by the Chinese as "National University of Governance, " "Zhèngdà" (政大). The name, Chengchi (政治) refers to "Governance" and politics. The school was founded by the Kuomintang-dominated Nationalist government of Nanjing in 1927 as an only incubator for senior civil service in China. It has been considered one of the most important institutions of the Republic of China with Central Military Academy (中央陸軍軍官學校), which is a prestigious incubator for commanders. Today, NCCU has been elected as the "Aim for the Top University Project" sponsored school of the Ministry of Education.

The school was established in 1927 in Nanjing as the Kuomingtang's Central School of Party Affairs. In 1929, it was renamed to Central School of Governance, after the "Northern Expedition" victory of the Nationalists in mainland China. In 1946, Central School of Governance emerged with the Central School of Cadre in Chongqing, and the National Central University of Governance was formally founded in Nanjing, signifying the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War. When the Nationalist government lost control of mainland China in 1949, the university's activities were suspended.
The university was relocated to Taiwan in 1954 as National Chengchi University in Taipei by the Executive Yuan in order to meet the senior civil service need and to meet the growing demands of higher education in post-war Taiwan. Initially only graduates students were admitted, but later in 1955, undergraduate students began to be admitted. In 1960, the university awarded the first Doctor of Juridical Science degree in Taiwan under the provisions of the Degree Conferral Law. In 1964, the school initiated the first Chinese MBA program.
Today, the school is one of the top universities in the Taiwan, and it also has been elected as the "Aim for the Top University Project" sponsored school of the Ministry of Education. The college of business is a double accredited school by AACSB and EQUIS, and the college of international affairs is an APSIA member school.
